The project aimed to prepare and systematically test lime coating systems modified with nanomaterials that increase resistance to microbiological colonization. For this purpose, the modification of the coatings with nano-titanium white was tested. The self-cleaning effect for different types of materials has been known for a long time for nano-titanium whitewash. However, the possibility of using the photoactive properties of nano-titanium whitewash in combination with lime coatings has not yet been tested. Not only the effectiveness of these coatings was tested, but also their composition was optimised and their basic properties (adhesion, porosity, microstructure, water absorption, vapour permeability, colour) were evaluated on a series of samples after application on a porous limestone substrate. At the same time, the possibility of improving the adhesion and extending the durability of this type of coatings by modifying the substrate with a lime alcohol nanosuspension based primer was tested. The tests were carried out under laboratory conditions and also as a field exterior test monitored over an extended period of time.
