The research task presents the problem of diagnosis and consolidation of artificial sandstone with epoxy binder from the 1980s and the subsequent restoration of a facsimile of the statue of Generosity from the Kuks Hospital from the same period. The subject of the restoration is the facsimile, which is part of one of the most extensive exchanges of originals by Matthias Bernard Braun for pieces of artificial stone bonded with epoxy resin. This replacement took place between 1976 and 1995. The epoxy ingots in Kuks, like other realisations of this type, are now not in satisfactory condition and the objects require restoration intervention.
It was first necessary to focus on archival research covering the history, period techniques and materials of the recess. The experimental part of the research is concerned with finding a suitable consolidation agent for epoxy resin-bonded artificial stone and the optimal method of their application. The restoration part presents the research and restoration of the epoxy facsimile of the statue of Generosity. Based on the results of the surveys and consolidation tests, a model project for the restoration of objects made of artificial stone bound with epoxy resin was created. The successful model restoration procedure was then implemented on the statue of Generosity.
