Description: The interdisciplinary project focuses on artificial caves, which are remarkable from a cultural and historical point of view as an Italian import in Central Europe. With regard to their artistic design and material composition, they represent a complicated problem in terms of restoration and long-term care of cultural heritage. During three working sessions directly on the sites of the selected grottos, discussions on restoration methods in Austria and the Czech Republic will take place with invited experts and the visited objects will be documented for the possibility of further follow-up research. The aim of the cooperation is to discuss the materiality of the grottos, the possibilities of non-destructive research and current restoration approaches in both countries.
