The circular glass mosaic with the motif of stylized female figure was created in 1969 by the mosaic workshop of the Art and Crafts Centre. The design was carried out by Jaroslav Bejček. In the original technology, the glass tesserae were fixed into an epoxy resin reinforced with a metal structure with a circumferential frame and, as a hanging panel, it was installed on the wall of the shopping center “Luna” in the Chomutov panel housing estate. However, the low resistance of used materials to climatic conditions resulted in a massive degradation of the underlying epoxy layer and the reinforcing steel structure. It caused large losses of the mosaic motif. In order to ensure longer lifetime of the mosaic, an entirely new system of mosaic support had to be developed. The epoxy resin was removed and replaced by two layers of plaster bound with natural hydraulic lime (the first layer was filled with sand, the second with expanded glass spheres) which were subsequently attached to the aluminum honeycomb panel and stainless steel structure with a MS-polymer glue. Thus a light weight construction composed of inert materials was developed, which was never used in the conservation field before. During the conservation, the mosaic was also cleaned and the losses of mosaic motif were reconstructed, according to a historical photograph, with a glass material similar to the original. This procedure represents a restoration approach, which can be also in the future used to restore glass mosaic panels with an epoxy adhesive.
