Use of cyclosiloxanes for restoration and conservation of paper

Provider: Univerzita Pardubice
Programme: Studentská grantová soutěž
Implementation period: 01.03.16 - 31.12.16
Workplace: Fakulta restaurování - Ateliér rest. papíru, kniž.vazby a dokum
Investigator: Slovik Radomír
Description:
Documents on paper support must often undergo conservation intervention with the use of polar solvents (water, alcohol ?). Solubility of some colours present in inks, stamps or other colour layers remains an issue of such interventions. To prevent (fix) colours from washing out solutions of synthetic polymers, cyclodecane solution or melt or possibly cationic or anionic chemical fixatives are used with various degrees of success. The objective of the project is to study the options of use of cyclosiloxanes (octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane) for the purposes of so called temporary fixation.
