Description:
The aim of the project is to research works of artificial marble created in the Czech lands at the beginning of the 18th century. In the last years of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century, large-scale works began to appear, especially in sacred environments, and mapping and describing them will be one of the aims of the project. The transfer of this technology was made possible by migrant artists who, after training in major art centres, created specific and unique works that will thus be placed in the context of contemporary artistic practice. The second line of the project will be a basic research on some of the properties of plaster material. Experimental firings of gypsum will be carried out, and the properties and possibilities of using such fired gypsum to make artificial marbles will be tested. Due to the very limited information on the form of gypsum firing technology in the 17th and 18th centuries, the influence of the different stages of gypsum firing on the properties and workability of the marble dough and its final properties will be tested.
