Description:
This project aims to research artificial marble works created in the Czech lands during the first half of the 18th century. A key aspect is the migration of artists between regional centers and religious orders, which significantly influenced artistic development. Local artists and their workshops—often spanning several generations—migrated throughout Central Europe, shaping distinctive styles and unique approaches to decorative work. Understanding this context is crucial for analyzing workshop operations, shifts in artistic, technological, and stylistic trends, and the characteristic techniques of individual artists, as revealed through close study. The project's foundation is interdisciplinary restoration research focused on specific monuments. This will provide detailed insights into the practices of individual artists and workshops, as well as clarify personal and period-specific methods. Alongside the planned scholarly outputs, the project will also develop maintenance guidelines and restoration concepts, offering practical applications for the future care of this specialized group of monuments.
