The fresco course took place on 7 - 10 July 2025.
Fresco is an artistic technique of mural painting, which is done on fresh (wet) plaster. The painter applies pigments dissolved in water directly onto the wet lime layer, thus chemically bonding the paint to the substrate - resulting in a very durable work. This technique was widely used in ancient Rome, but reached its peak during the Renaissance, when artists such as Michelangelo and Giotto made it famous. Frescoes often adorn the walls of churches, monasteries and palaces, where they depict religious and secular scenes with rich symbolism and expressive composition.
The programme consists of both theoretical and practical parts and its main objectives are as follows:
- To familiarize the participants of the programme with the basic principles of the technique, an overview of its historical development, its use in architecture and the principles of care of historical decoration.
- To familiarise the participants with the main materials and tools used for the main variants of the technique.
- As part of the practical part, show and teach program participants the basics of correctly performing the Fresco technique, i.e. mixing and applying plaster, transferring the painting to the plaster surface, preparing the colors, and the painting process itself.
