      Archive

The archive of the Department of Humanities preserves documentation created within the restoration activities of the faculty and the institutions that preceded it. It also contains restoration reports from other sources and personal fonds of several important Czech restorers (e.g. Jiří Josefík, David Zeman). Another significant part of the archival holdings consists of student seminar papers related to works restored as part of the faculty's activities. Restoration documents and seminar papers are registered in the EDOS database. The archive also includes a collection of several thousand exhibition catalogues from the period from the begining of 20th century to the present, which were donated to the Faculty by Mgr. Jiří Kaše. The catalogues can be searched in a separate index.

    Study Collection

Along with the opening of the first restoration school in Litomyšl in 1993, on the initiative of Mgr. Jiří Kaše, the "Museum of Restoration and Historical Technologies" was founded. It is a study collection, which is partially presented in the rooms of the faculty in the Red Tower and in the Piarist College. The collection contains historical tools or samples of materials used in the arts and crafts of the past. It also contains artefacts made from a variety of materials, such as decorative and construction elements made of wood, metals and terracotta, and plaster fragments and transfers, or fragments of artworks, which were usually acquired during restoration work. A remarkable part of the collection are objects documenting the history of the printmaking craft. The objects are registered in the EDOS database.

  EDOS database

EDOS, the database of archival and museum collections of the Faculty of Restoration was created since 2011 within the project "Restorers for European Practice - Innovation of the Bachelor's Degree Programme of the Faculty of Restoration". The database contains objects stored in the Red Tower depository and archival collections stored at the Department of Humanities. The platform serves professionals in the fields of restoration, conservation and art history or architecture in searching for information on works of art of the past, restoration interventions and historical technologies. By linking the database of collection artefacts and the database of restoration reports and other written sources, a unique opportunity has been given to find the context of various restoration interventions as well as specific material evidence of historical technologies and artistic creation.

The database is managed by Mgr. MgA. Věra Sejkorová Kašparová, vera.sejkorovakasparova@upce.cz
