In the winter semester of the first year of the Master's programme, students first undertake a detailed restoration survey. The emphasis is placed primarily on stratigraphic probing of the interiors and exteriors of historic buildings. Students learn not only the correct identification of probe sites and their subsequent execution, but above all the evaluation of the survey with emphasis on the creation of a restoration concept and the design of individual steps. Starting in the summer semester, they then engage in challenging restoration tasks that require careful consideration of the approaches and procedures chosen. Intensive collaboration between students and both internal theoretical departments (Department of Humanities and Department of Chemical Technology) and external consultants is common.
